Preserving the Sacred Legacy of Royal Arch Masonry
In Illinois, the path to establishing a Royal Arch Chapter begins with a formal petition to the Grand Royal Arch Chapter of Illinois for a dispensation, which precedes a permanent charter. This request requires twenty Companions in good standing and specific details regarding our meeting place. Upon the successful completion of Capitular work while under dispensation, a formal charter may be granted with the final approval of the Grand Royal Arch Chapter of Illinois. **How the Process Works:** (1) We first unite interested Companions and Master Masons within the Kankakee community; (2) Once we have gathered twenty Companions in good standing, we petition the Grand Royal Arch Chapter of Illinois for a dispensation to organize this new chapter; (3) After demonstrating proficiency in our Capitular rituals while under dispensation, our chapter may receive its full charter, exclusively through the approval of the Grand Royal Arch Chapter of Illinois.
Chapter History
While Kankakee once held a historic chapter that later merged elsewhere, we now aim to establish a completely fresh chapter, creating a new legacy for today's active Companions.
Restoration Efforts
Local Companions and Master Masons are gathering to build a new chapter, focusing on Capitular education and securing twenty members to petition the Grand Chapter for a dispensation.
Importance of Royal Arch Masonry
Royal Arch Masonry holds a special place in the Masonic journey. It builds upon the lessons of the Blue Lodge and carries a Mason deeper into the history, symbolism, and meaning of the Craft. The Holy Royal Arch has long been regarded as one of the most important parts of Masonry because it brings to completion themes that begin in the earlier degrees and offers a fuller understanding of the Temple story and its enduring lessons. In this way, Royal Arch Masonry is not simply “more Masonry,” but a richer continuation of it. Through reverent ritual, faithful companionship, and ongoing education, Royal Arch Masonry helps good Masons become more thoughtful, more informed, and more deeply connected to the foundations of the Fraternity. For the Kankakee area, restoring a Royal Arch presence means giving local Brethren the opportunity to complete this part of their Masonic story close to home. It allows Companions and interested Master Masons to explore the deeper teachings of the Craft together, support one another in their obligations, and strengthen the wider Masonic family in our region.
JOIN THE BROTHERHOOD
We are currently gathering at least twenty Companions in good standing to sign the formal petition for a new chapter in Kankakee. In addition to these Companions, we warmly welcome all interested Master Masons to join us as we work toward restoring the light of Royal Arch Masonry to our community. By getting involved during this foundational stage, early supporters will help shape the chapter's future and culture. **Become a Foundational Member** • Help secure the legal dispensation for our new local chapter; • Engage in fraternal fellowship and planning meetings with fellow Brethren; • Develop ritual excellence and educational traditions from the ground up; • Gain the potential distinction of being a Charter Member, a recognition that is subject to the formal approval of the Grand Royal Arch Chapter of Illinois.
